A Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Professor of English at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, India, Varghese Mathai has his Ph.D. from Baylor University, where he was a Mortar Board Scholar, and held the Robert Browning Fellowship.
For 16 years, he has taught at Judson University, where he now holds the Benjamin P. Browne Chair, and is Professor of Doctoral Writing. Earlier, he held academic appointments at LeTourneau University, at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul MN, and at the University of Minnesota – all in the USA.
He has published scholarly articles on Gerard Manley Hopkins, on John Hope Franklin, on Jarena Lee, and on Amanda Berry Smith. Among his other books, is The Malabar Mandate: A Life of Volbrecht Nagel, which went into its second edition in 2015.
His latest book, Mahakavi K. V. Simon: The Milton of the East, was released on October the 5th, 2023, by Bloomsbury.
His previous book, The Village Maestro & 100 Other Stories, (Pippa Rann) is nearly sold out – though a few copies are still available, that title is already scheduled for reprint (details to be announced).
