Satya

Satya (1998)

Satya wasn’t the first gangster film of Bollywood, but it was the first film to dive deeper into the realities of Mumbai’s local gangs than any of its glorified predecessors. Satya or truth, is not just the protagonist’s name, but is a take on the word’s meaning in a vortex of circumstances. Though the story of an honest man, who arrives in a big city to make a living, and ends up as a gangster is old and finds precident in thousands of such men on the streets of Mumbai. But the writing and direction of the film, supported by some powerful acting performances, makes this reality come alive on screen.
