Rashmi Narzary

Sahitya Akademi Awardee for English Children’s literature in 2016 for her book His Share of Sky, Rashmi Narzary is an author, creative writing mentor, and independent editor. She has worked with the late Dr. Bhabendra Nath Saikia’s award winning Assamese works. Narzary is the Joint Secretary of the North East Writers’ Forum https://www.newf.co.in/ and recipient of the Prag-Prerona Awards 2020 for her services to literature.

Her first novel was Bloodstone, Legend of the Last Engraving, she has just finished work on “Yomu”, an inter-country literary project initiated by the Japan Foundation New Delhi, and her work is set to be translated into Vietnamese.

Her work is taught in universities and is being researched for a Ph. D. thesis.

In appreciation and acknowledgment of her literary work, Narzary has been featured extensively in the print and electronic media, including in the TV Serial ‘Purvottar ke Sitare’ (‘the shining stars of North-East India’).

She has been committed to creative writing workshops as a mentor, e.g., for

  • Katha Utsav 2019 as National Grand Finale Mentor, New Delhi
  • The Indo-Japanese literary venture Zubaan-Sasakawa Peace Foundation Writing Methodology Workshop for research scholars
  • Katha Utsav (East Zone) 2017.

As a freelance editor, she has worked among others for

– UNICEF Field Office, Guwahati

– Department of Culture, Govt. of Assam

– Department of Panchayat and Rural Development, Govt of Assam.

A graduate in Economics and a post-graduate in Human Resource Management, she found her passion for writing undimmed, producing the short story collections Wings, Looking Beyond, His Share of Sky, Mosaic and her debut novel Bloodstone: Legend of the Last Engraving.

Rashmi Narzary lives in Guwahati with her husband, Hemanta Narzary, a former IAS Officer, their two children and an adorable, assorted bunch of pets.
