Jo-Jeeta-Wohi-Sikandar

Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992)

This Aamir Khan starrer was Bollywood’s first successful sports drama and is still one of the finest films in this genre. Though the film used the recurring Bollywood theme of the tussle between ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ of the Indian society, its merger with the schooling system was fresh, and provided a wonderful battleground for a hero to be born. The protagonist Sanju (Aamir Khan) starts as a mischievous, carefree teenager, who lacks any motivation to win, but with circumstances pushing him to the edge, he rises to the challenge and emerges as the winner. It is one of the most entertaining coming of age stories ever told in Bollywood.
