Dr. Jyotsna Chatterjee

Aademician, and Gender rights activist, is the Founder Director and Secretary of the Joint Women’s Programme. She was a Gender Trainer for the National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development, National Institute for Professional Advancement, Haryana Institute of Public Administration, National Institute of Criminology, Police Training Centres and is the Governing Body Member of several organisations.

She is the editor & author of several books & papers on women and children. During the course of her career, she convinced the Indian Government to make amendments to Section 10 of the Indian Divorce Act, 1869, which made divorce possible for both Christian men and women on equal grounds and divorce by mutual consent and was the driving force behind the passage of Devadasi Prohibition of Dedication Act against religious sanction for Child Prostitution through her study on the Devadasi Problem, and Trafficking of Women and Children.

Her 10 workshops on Child Marriage in different regions of India sponsored by UNICEF and NHRC prepared the data for the passage of the new Act, The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act. She has received several awards including the Women of the Year Award from National Commission for Women, Women Achievers’ Award from Amity University.
